Harris County Food Systems Report

The food system - how food is grown, how far it travels to the store, where the store is located, how the food is cooked, and the regulations around food - bears weight not only on the quality and availability of healthy foods but also the environment, economy and public health. The Principles therefore draw attention to the relationship between public health and “the entire lifecycle of how food is produced, processed, packaged, labeled, distributed, marketed, consumed, and disposed.”
